On why the publisher chose the name Rocksmith 2014 as opposed to Rocksmith 2, senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key explained it was to encourage those who had not played the first game yet to buy and play the second one, without needing to invest in a previous installment of the franchise. Rocksmith 2014 also features a mode for colorblind players. A new finger positioning tool has also been added. Rocksmith 2014 is intended to be more of a teaching tool than the original game, featuring more than 85 lessons covering bends, accents, slides, and more. New missions have been added as a way to challenge and direct players towards areas they need to improve upon. Other new modes include an enhanced Master Mode to help with memory-playing and new Guitarcade minigames. The game includes a Session Mode, which enables players to perform in jam sessions with the in-game musicians. It now includes the ability to set song difficulty, rather than having to play the song starting at the lowest difficulty, as in Rocksmith. Rocksmith 2014 offers three different development paths for lead, rhythm, and bass guitar respectively. Other guitars, such as acoustic guitars, may require additional hardware, such as a pickup. Rocksmith 2014 recommends the use of the "Hercules" adapter, a USB cable that connects to the standard 1⁄ 4 in (6.35 mm) output jack of most electric and bass guitars. The game continued to receive new DLC song packs weekly until March 2020. The game was released to generally positive reviews from critics who praised the games improvements over its predecessor. The game was remastered a year later with additional content for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014. It was announced at Ubisoft's 2013 E3 presentation and was released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC/Mac in October 2013.

The game comes with 66 songs on disk, with thousands more available to download in paid DLC packs. Like its predecessor, the game allows players to plug in virtually any electric guitar or bass guitar and play along via the use of a USB adapter – removing the need for any proprietary controller like other music games such as Guitar Hero. It is a followup to the 2011 game Rocksmith, but has been described as a replacement to the original game rather than a sequel.

I'm running windows 8.1, and using a cable from the original rocksmith, not a 2014 cable.Rocksmith 2014 is a music video game produced by Ubisoft. I've tested it multiple times using different ports (only usb 2.0 though - want to save the 3.0s for when I need speed), restarted my machine, and all of that actual testing that one should do before posting a fix. I went out and bought a powered USB 2.0 hub for about 20 bucks at best buy. maybe 100 or something.Īnyway, here's what actually worked despite my previous misgivings about getting enough power to the ports:

That sounded obviously wrong for my case because I just bought a new high end PC and the ports get something like 500(whatever the power measurement is) to each port, and the cable requires far less than that.

One fix that kept coming up for the OG rocksmith cable was this idea that there wasn't enough power to the USB port. I think a lot of the fixes people have posted may have just been the last thing they did before it randomly decided to not be broken once so people prematurely posted these solutions as fixes, or maybe they had different setups, or there may be multiple valid fixes, or what have you. I tried all of these things in multiple orders over the span of a couple of weeks and nothing worked. I also called Ubisoft customer service and walked through various steps with them. Ordering a new rocksmith 2014 cable (it hasn't arrived yet so idk if it will work or not) Turning the volume all the way up in recording devices (couldn't actually do this one since the microphone wouldn't even appear under recording devices, but I turned up the other which obviously didn't work - hey, I was desperate to play -)ĭisabling xhci in bios (which doesn't actually exist as an option in my version of 8.1 at least - I could only enable or disable specific usb ports)

Installing/uninstalling drivers (there is no rocksmith specific driver you can download, btw)

So I surfed the many forums on the problem, and tried everything in various orders including:

My OG (short for OriGinal) rocksmith cable (not a 2014 cable) worked fine on my old windows 7 machine, but when I bought a new rig which runs windows 8 I started getting this 'hocksmit error code 10' PITA issue.
